Also, I spent some time living with my gran and her girlfriend in secondary school, and this very small, near universally adopted phrasing meant I didn’t have to think about how or why my home life differed from my classmates. That’s why inclusive language is used.

I remember comics competition pages in the early 80s using the phrase "parent or legal guardian." This terminology has been used for decades
