More politicians communicatiing this way - unscripted, direct and honest - would be incredibly welcome in the absolute mess that is UK politics

Let’s hope for exactly that kind of action. Warm words not enough.

Without wishing to be too cynical – and she sounds quite sincere – all she actually says it that wants to change the *impression* that the SNP is unsafe for trans people, without acknowledging that it actually is unsafe, as long as people like JC and JMcA are given free rein

I hope so. It's looooooong overdue. But I think the fact that so many young members and activists have left the party in disgust might - hopefully - be the catalyst for change that was needed.
-
Yes, was really impressed she addressed the problem in this way. The lack of action on Joanna Cherry has been horrendous, and young people are the future of the SNP and the fight for an independent Scotland

I guess you can say it's more than Starmer would've done, but that's a low bar, and fundamentally there isn't even a hint towards any commitments - either internally (challenging Cherry al.), or externally (amending today's legislation, a timetable for GRA reform etc.).
-
Yes, that’s why I immediately mentioned action - hopefully her statement can be used to hold party officials to account and enforce zero tolerance in the SNP
