Why has it taken Starmer so long to come out with such a non-committal statement? Just say you support teacher and pupil safety, go on! Go on!https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/1345755933041950722 …

Labour should be framing the schools debate as about the safety of pupils, families, teachers and staff, and how fully open schools are sites of mass community spread and unsafe currently because of how the Conservatives have handled it. Prevaricating does nothing.
Point out Williamson clearly felt there were safety issues, hence announcing more school closures, so Boris Johnson should not be believed when he says they’re safe at the moment. Families and staff should be protected.
“Having schools closed disrupts families’ lives, but the death of more family members is an even greater strain, and the longer this virus affects us the longer our lives are disrupted and risked - school closures are essential to containing the spread.”
Johnson's move makes me think of Trump. Teasing it out like it is a plot advancement in a tv show.
He’s not very forensic after all.
even a not-committed-to-specific-policies statement can actually ...sound good? but not this
It just feels backwards? Just say you think teachers and concerned parents are right, schools should be closed until they can be made safe, and demand Johnson tell the public what restrictions he’s considering imposing.
If new restrictions are brought in in next 24h, Johnson will also have to tell us what they are? Same end result surely?
