Friends in a Whatsapp group are going on and on about having banana-flavoured antibiotics as kids, and two of us from Ireland and Wales only ever had strawberry ones, is this an English thing?

We had the banana one in Belfast - was more of a treat than the strawberry Calpol

Wait - I thought I was allergic to penicillin but I definitely had that banana medicine as a child and didn’t get ill. This means I could have been having penicillin this whole time!!!?!?

What’s your reaction? Apparently loads of people think they’re allergic but aren’t.

I’ve no idea as was always told I was allergic as a baby - though I had a bit of turn when I got the polio vaccine and had to lie down on a smelly mat in the school gym for half an hour while people laughed through the window.

Yeah, I was told the same - then a doctor at uni stroppily told me most people mistake common side effects for allergies and gave me amoxycillin. And that’s how I ended up in hospital an hour later after wheezing and having my face, chest and arm swell up even after an Epipen.
