Yeah I mean I had mine in hospital and even pre covid I was only allowed one person with me (my partner) but also I was in labour for like 2.5 days, how long are people expecting to hang around?
Yes, privacy was my first thought, but also remember how long some births were and *oof* that’s a long time to be gawped at. And the extra stress for couples if something goes wrong, and the two of you are forced to make deeply personal decisions in front of people.
