something i wish is that contemporary accounts about how much the second world war sucked to live through were more popular(ised). i would love to read more about how people felt about state rationing; experienced the response to the blitz; did or didn't trust the government

Same, only reason I know about it at all is because we did an A Level module on the Home Front, and my teacher wasn't a wild jingoist and wanted us to know war was grim for everyone, soldiers and citizens.

The Blitz wasn't discussed a whole lot in my history classes, nor evacuees. My fav YA novels revolved around evacuees living in Canada, and it was all very romantic. Actually, correction: some living in Canada, some living in Narnia
