Britain sent 1.5m children away from their homes to live with strangers in the countryside. And this woman was *8* when WW2 ended.https://twitter.com/Telegraph/status/1319342959062622210 …

maybe this lady is onto something... why don’t we simply bomb the virus?

The virus, like Nazis bomb planes, only hits at night. No reason for us not to lick door handles on public transport on the way to work.

During the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, the government was concerned about lost working hours when people went to the shelters. Lord Beaverbrook accused workers of 'hanging about outside the shelters' and pushed for warnings of raids to be given at the last possible moment...

..This led to tragedies like the raid on Southampton in September 1940 when insufficient warning was given and many Supermarine workers were in the open between factory and shelter when the bombs hit. 110 people were killed

Boomers on my town's Facebook page complain about free school meals because 'people practically had nothing and struggled during the war'. As if there wasn't, I don't know, a state created scheme of allocating specific amounts of food to prevent starvation.

And those children were miserable. My uncles and aunt (b1926, 1927 and 1930 respectively) were sent to three different families. Many of those families resented having to put them up and they were all desperately homesick.

Yeah, we learny about how miserable and often abused kids were in our module on the Home Front. My great-gran was the same age as this woman but didn’t pretend to remember WW2.

I feel like people who "didn't give a sod about the rules" during the Blitz were both very unpopular and potentially subject to arrest for rule breaches that could cause potential harm to people around them?

The book by Angus Calder - A people’s war is a terrific history of the struggles of ordinary people in the war which debunks much of this nostalgic nonsense.
