How do you square "Labour lost because of its Brexit policy" with "Labour members should decide party policy"? It's tough given how many members either supported the policy or wanted it to be more 'Remain'.
I agree with Jack’s take. Party policy doesn’t appear out of nowhere though, so I think it’s fine to criticise MPs who lobbied for positions you think were electorally ruinous?

yes, the members were sold a pup, we were told that not backing a second referendum was damaging, many who switched to back the new brexit policy were convinced of this

But it's almost certain that we'd have lost as many (or more) seats if we'd have stuck by a leave position? Remainers would have supported and legitimised the LDs long-term. There were specific polling reasons that heavily implied a 2nd ref was the least worst option.

I guess the question is why support for 2nd ref was big in our voter base, and overwhelming in the membership? I think John McD / AEIP role was minor. It was much more in reaction to the horrors of the Tory Brexit proposals, and the absence of clearly articulated alternatives.
