2002 - 2015: “flatscreen TVs and smartphones.” Now they’re struggling since all TVs are flatscreen. And Universal Credit demands you jobsearch online. So shifting to “top of the line phones” and “50 inch TVs.” But people are struggling to eat because of housing costs & bills.

Child hunger isn’t down to families being too selfish to budget - austerity, the paucity of universal credit, and the fact housing and living costs have grown far faster than wages and benefits, so poverty has grown. It’s that simple.

Benefits are set at the lowest possible level, there’s no secret cheat code to live a comfortable life on the bare minimum. In one dreadful reality 2010 TV ‘experiment’ called Tower Block of Commons, they asked MPs to live on benefits for a week, and the Tory hid £50 in her bra.

Also even if you found me a parent on benefits who had built a whole house out of giant TVs and iPhones and took all of the drugs and lived off champagne and caviar - I would still be 100% behind ensuring their child isn’t punished for this with hunger and malnutrition!
