A trip to the dentist might be in order. They will give you advice on which guard is best for you. They would also make you a custom one which would fit your teeth perfectly and not come off or fall out.

My husband wears teethguards to stop snoring and seems to be ok. They fall out of the mouth i think more easily than you would choke on them.

A number of them you can acquire relatively cheaply and they soften in hot water so you can mould them completely to your teeth. Good luck

Guy I used to work with wore them for years at night, to the point where he'd regularly go for refitting because he'd damaged another. No choking problems.
