Alas the morphine’s worn off and it’s less fun. Pain is the worst I’ve ever felt, worse than getting hit by a car, and when I broke my leg. Never break your ribs, friends, be careful.

That’s actual advice, not a plea for sympathy. But if anyone else has broken their ribs, please, please tell me what helped and how you managed.

Seriously rest for as long as possible. I was in the US when I broke mine, and the approach there was a crazy amount of painkillers and straight back to work. A doctor roommate told me unless I rested properly I would really feel it on damp/cold days when I was older, and now...

Ah, rest is a good idea. Was going to go into the office even though most people are working from home, but just thought about rush hour on the bus and fucking hell, I am not doing that.

Very wise. Even absent bumps or strains, just moving around much can be problematic for a few days at least.

Yeah, the transition between sitting to standing, and upright to lying down is the height of the pain. No way am I getting knocked around on the bus.
