I’ve written this before, but the Labour right’s obsession with exclusively targeting Tory voters who might switch rather than building a programme that convinces non-voters to register and vote just alienates and loses people on the left.

If the choice is between Tory and Tory-lite, there’s not much to be enthused about. And if Labour just ape Tory policies, it gives them licence to skip even further right on immigration and the social safety net.

If only there was a recent example of Labour hitting 40% only for that to collapse when they revealed their actual, crappy right wing programme for the country

I guess it would take imagination and an actual vision of a different way, and they would much rather move numbers around in Excel or something.

The 34% below literally don't exist for a lot of politics experts (and these figures don't even include the unregistered, just non-voters)pic.twitter.com/jjZZ6qWqhQ

But wasn’t that the Corbyn policy. Lots of vocal enthusiasm from left of left-of-centre, no impact where it matters?

The premise of this argument is that the people who “matter” may be the non-voters rather than the contestable swing voters. What strengthens the argument now mainstream rw parties are no longer contesting the “centre” but breaking norms and striking rightward, for power.

I won't vote at the next election because of this. Which will mean precisely nothing because I'm in a safe Tory seat. So tired.

I've decided I will still go to the polling station and spoil my ballot. I don't want the crafty Tories using my vote in their postal vote fiddle.

Didn’t the Tories turn out more non-voters in 2019 than Labour? Courting non-voters for the elections that take place prior to 2024 is not a sound strategy given swing voters will actually turn out...

We may attribute this to the fact that many traditional non-voters came out for Brexit. By coming out in favour of a 2nd ref, Boris' Tories became the logical party of the 'Brexit-above-all' voters who would've otherwise stayed at home.
