The £500 payment in Wales won’t get you far either. My brother’s 18 and on minimum wage and would be £16 out of pocket. If you’re over 25 it’s closer to £150, far more if you’re earning above minimum wage. No surprise asymptomatic people are risking it.

Ah. Fantastic.
The payment only applies from 28th September in England and as far as I can tell from government website, there's no information about how to access it yetShow this thread

Yep, saw the charts from this going round yesterday with lots of people saying stuff like "just shows that whatever the government does, some people just won't follow it..." when the paper says the exact opposite??!!

Encouraging people to go to restaurants, surrounded by and served by strangers when your test and trace system doesn’t work seems like an extremely responsible thing for a government to do in the middle of a pandemic.

I've only heard of the £500 in relation to Wales (the first minister said it a few days ago) not heard about an England scheme

Same, when it was mentioned on the BBC they didn’t say “in line with England” and you’d assume they would

You only get the £500 if you're already on benefits and working at the same time. Anyone who is on minimum wage, working full time and doesn't have kids is deemed to be earning “too much“ for UC, so won't get the £500
