The day they opened the pubs here, the queue for Wetherspoons stretched right round the block. At 6am. This pandemic is laying a lot of stuff bare, including the alarming dependence of our population on drinking.

I can remember closing times of 10:30pm in the week, it just led to more being consumed in the time available.

Yep, people would get a few pints in before last orders and neck them before throwing out time so more drunk because of speedy drinking.
