My neighbour’s child is in a school with staggered start times, and she says she loves it because she gets to have a coffee with him in a cafe before school, then pick him up later than normal.

Learning this has made me understand why rush hour suddenly seems three times as long twice a day. Is everywhere doing the same?

Not all schools, because some parents said it made drop off too difficult if they had more than one child (reasonable concern), but a lot of them.

Yeah, my immediate thought on hearing this was “this must be impossible for loads of people.” She is still working from home (hence bumping into her) but if/when she goes back?

Y I think a lot of places are. Ours are - we spend the extra time hot-footing it between 2 schools though.

Yes been that way since I was in school though younger high school kids used to start earlier than I did.

We are doing staggered starts between 8:55 and 9:15. It’s super fun.

My son's school has staggered drop off and pick up since lockdown. And something I learned when he was starting school was that school start times are coordinated staggered across the borough to mitigate traffic congestion.

Yeah basically the same with us. At the moment I'm dropping one kid off at secondary at 8, then me and the other kid are at his primary school at 0815 but he can't go in until 0840 so we go to a cafe and have a lovely chat* *sit in car looking at phones
