The kind of debate that is often set up as a two-sided issue with both sides encouraged to tear chunks out of each other. But it was completely respectful, and far more insightful, interesting and enjoyable to listen to as a result.

The section I was on after was the same: on masks, me saying I’d ask others to wear masks on buses if I had a spare, another woman who wouldn’t, and a virologist. Was much better than any other debate I’ve heard on it, including callers.

Wish more broadcast media took that approach: rather than simply offering combative debates, to be “won”, exploring why people feel the way they do, including experts to factcheck/teach the public too. “I hadn’t thought of that” should be a bigger takeaway than “X side is right.”
