Oh, he wasn't hounded out by the public, among whom he was generally well-regarded. He was hounded out by the government officials responsible for the MTA, because he had an intolerable habit of honesty and was guilty of raising our expectations, however slightly.

Yeah, my tweet was badly worded: I didn’t know about the MTA hounding him out, just assumed he’d decided to move on but that I was impressed by how well thought of he was by the public
