Agree, this is a great idea - most of us won't notice a 2.5% VAT cut

It's better than a VAT cut but the virus isn't eradicated so encouraging ppl to do face to face shopping and going on holiday is dangerous. Keep shops shut until we've actually got new cases in single digits and give us UBI

There are other methods, but I did immediately think how I could pass on the spending to mates who have less income than me. But still not comfortable going to shops beyond necessities.

Far cheaper to give cash

Cash would get saved by higher income families. The objective is to get money into circulation and help covid-impacted businesses. Vouchers have to be spent. Cash doesn’t.

Making it so it has to be spent in person is coercive and discriminatory. Pushing people to engage in risky behaviour, and discriminating against anyone who can’t go out for various reasons (shielding, disabled, etc). Headgrabbing gesture bullshit, Dawn.

£500 straight into your bank account would help people a lot more, even better if it was monthly.

100% you’ll only be able to spend them in companies connected with the Tory party
