To be fair to Americans, the heat and humidity many of them experience throughout most of each summer is rarely found in the UK at all. Other than 2018, I can't remember a summer where I have felt consistently unpleasantly hot for more than a few days.

not only that, avg houses are built for maximum heat retention, because extreme heat in summers did not exist when they were first planned (and it’s not “traditional” to update the regulations), and it saves money in winter (more than actually building with proper insulation)

They're still better than Australian houses which somehow manage to be colder inside than out on a winters morning and the inverse in summer. "Glorified tents" is the best description I've heard
