Essentially saying “you’re the ones we’re happy to risk”, but also they’re paid through an agency so don’t get sick pay. So it’s not just risk, but also a higher likelihood of losing money (and the pay is fucking shit, so no one hase savings.)

I think the key questions are 1) Was it voluntary? & 2) Do those working with COVID residents given any kind of bonus?

My other half works in a hospital where they took the opposite decision - to spread the strain. One main reason was that when staff on Red (Covid) wards became overwhelmed none of the others could hug them.

In our care home we rotate wards so everyone has equal contact, but our PPE and protocols for COVID patients are really strict so no staff have caught it (so far).

To be honest, although it’s tough on those workers, it is absolutely what care homes should be doing. There should be some kind of additional payment to those workers.

In fairness, I´m sure it´s meant to prevent transmission to other vulnerable patients and not all about preventing staff going off sick. (I am a care worker who has had covid btw.)
