Legal question - if someone originally pled guilty to murder, changed lawyers and instead argues it was manslaughter, soes the trial then need a jury?
They initially pleaded guilty to murder, but changed barristers (the lawyer was involved in a car crash) and is now like to try a manslaughter plea. But it’s only 10 says before the trial.

This is probably beyond my knowledge level I'm afraid - but if they pleaded guilty I wouldn't expect there to be a trial, just a sentencing hearing? AFAIK, if they have already pleaded, the new lawyer would have to argue to the court that the plea should be vacated

& if the court agreed, it would then be up to the prosecution as to whether to proceed with the murder charge & a not-guilty plea, or whether to charge manslaughter instead.

But I don't think the defendant can just change their plea if they've already pleaded in court.
