Some of the replies to this are great - everyone remembers eg videos about electricity sub-stations, but the really heavy-handed stuff is incredibly thought out. Would love to know what schools do now.https://twitter.com/DawnHFoster/status/1263178476653289480 …

Remember at school we were repeatedly taken to a fire brigade warehouse where they deliberately started chip pan fires then chucked water on them, and honestly think it was an absolute genius way of teaching us fire safety. Also meant even my dumb post-ictal brain didn’t try it.

I didn't get any of this with fire safety - but I do remember a v traumatic event about safe driving that we were marched off too where they brought onto stage various family members of people who died in care accidents and some poor paralysed bloke. Scared me shirtless.

Until I stopped being scared and then flipped my car into a field of course.

I saw this at some point in the 1970s and still have flashbacks. It's some kind of railway safety film crossed with the Hunger Games.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXGqwCbeFD8 …

I recall a safety video at school that had a boy falling off scaffolding and catching his head on a metal rod. It left a piece of his head behind. I remember the bits of hair to this day (I'm old now). It definitely made me more careful when I played on building sites.

There is a place called “Hazard Alley” in Milton Keynes which schools go to - has a fire scenario and kids call the fire brigade etc.

I was chatting to a woman whose father had done high voltage work for an electricity company. He would talk about his work. He warned here to stay away from one substation in particular (400 kV). As he put it "If you go in there, they'll have to remove you with a bucket & shovel"

We had nothing like this at my school, so I took the initiative and set the lab bench on fire!! True story.
