Trouble is Dawn that “very small niche of Labour/Tory swing votes” was big enough to bring labour to its biggest defeat since the 1930s. Without them Labour cannot govern. Of course it also needs to engage with the centrist left and traditional labour voters who deserted Corbyn.

Yes. If 1/5 of Labour voters in 80 seats switch to the Tories, it doesn't matter (a) what Labour voters in the other 550 seats do or (b) what the other 4/5 of Labour voters in those seats do. But tailoring policy to 1/35 of all Labour voters is a high risk strategy.
