Another reason it is idiotic (for there are many) is the arbitrary threshold. I mean, why is "within a year" ok but presumably within however long Shriver has left is wrong? The people that say this always conveniently draw the line so they are left on the safe side, I notice.

Yeah, “probably” doing a lot of heavy lifting. Was on radio with Darren Grimes who repeatedly claimed only a “tiny” percentage of the dead weren’t very elderly. A decade of life is huge!

Exactly this. My friend has just lost her dad - and yes, he was ill, but that's not the point, she and her mum should have been able to be with him when he died. What a cruel and nonsensical thing for Shriver to say.
