Owning a book about a subject matter you want to understand doesn't, to my mind, mean you subscribe to any associated beliefs of the book's subject. Regardless of political leanings. I've got several books on or relating WW2 France simply because it was a core module at uni.

The point with Gove's bookshelf, though, is that it suggests he's a lot more interested in extreme right-wing ideology than anything further left than Vince Cable. And... why would you need a book by a holocaust denier to "understand" holocaust denial?
