These included students who missed deadlines because their kids were hospitalised, they were wrongfully arrested, or suddenly evicted. Genuinely stupid, discriminatory bymureacratic system.

Also, there was one of me in a university with a high level of non-traditional students with chaotic lives, and they were 10x as strict as Warwick, who allowed individual tutors to grant extensions

Yep, my RG was very easy to deal with, tutors empathetic and able to grant extensions. The Post-92 was harsh and immovable, and when I complained was told “we’re trying to be more like RG”. By capping everyone at 40% for going through far worse circumstances?!

Interesting thing was, they hired me because I’d worked in widening participation when studying at an RG, then ignored all my suggestions, believing the key to success was being excessively strict, not providing pastoral support.

...happy to write letters. I can’t imagine what it must be like for people with GPs who aren’t as supportive or with conditions that are undiagnosed or which some doctors view with suspicion. Also, I’m privileged to be able to pay the tenner every time I need a letter

I sometimes see what it’s like for most people when my excellent GP is on leave, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I suffer from depression and once had a GP I didn’t know look through my notes, and write a letter which said ‘jack has, apparently, been suffering from low mood’
