At Warwick, if I had problens, I went to mt course tutor and they agreed new deadlines. This university instantly referred to centralised the academic caseworker who was overworked and ignored in most cases anyway.

I think you will find that tutors no longer have much discretion. It’s part of most diversity policies & intended to prevent favouritism. Sometimes anti-discrimination regs are a rather blunt instrument.
