I’d understood (and quite possibly misunderstood) this shift in timeframe for reporting as about ensuring there’s time for families to be informed of a death before it appears as a public statistic. I.e. an ethical consideration rather than a legal constraint?

I think most countries are under reporting the figures in some way. Each govt knows the power of these figures and how it reflects on them. We can hardly be surprised that this lying prone government mislead the public to make them look like they’ve now got a handle on this.

I have written many many data protection courses, including one on consent, ethics and data protection for medical researchers, and consent/privacy do not apply if a person is deceased. I can talk for hours about this stuff.
