A lot of people's food consumption came from workplaces & restaurants etc putting even more strain on supermarket supply chains

I think this is also a generational thing. We were taught the cooking skills at school and our parents were of the ‘waste no want not’ rationing era. The idea of going out to eat wasn’t anywhere on my mother’s landscape. Dad’s 80th birthday meal was consequently pure hell.

Turns out my batch cook&freeze, get staples on bogof, put in a monthly Suma order, forage and preserve habit was actually my super power. Have bought a month’s worth of cat food - as I can’t feed him lentils. Still have my mum’s stockpile of soap&candles. She died in 2013...

Yep. I shop as and when, so was caught somewhat with my pants down last week when I ran out of toilet paper... Official advice is for members of household in SI *not* to leave for 14 days (except for any who've recovered after 7). People simply preparing for that so big strain.

That said, many are just losing their heads. I've limited how much I buy because I know others are more vulnerable. But knowing that, if I self isolate, I won't even be able to order groceries makes that somewhat unwise on a personal level.
