It’s perfectly reasonable for the public to request transparency in how decisions about their health risks are made, and to ask questions about why the UK has chosen to diverge in coronavirus policy from every other country, even if *shock* they’re not epidemiologists.

It’s the job of journalists to scrutinise political decisions, demand greater transparency, and explain complex ideas accessibly, rather than sneeringly expecting readers to lap it up, no questions asked unless they’re an epidemiologist.

I sense some journos are v excited to have learned a new word which can be deployed in a tone of peevish condescension 'epidemiologist'

This is so true. People aren't stupid and they are entitled to question this approach when it is so vastly different to other countries. It also seems cruel to immediately accept that some people are expendable for the greater good.

It's very hard to take this Govt seriously when they've ridiculed expert advice for the last 4 years and then suddenly it's all in favour again. Journalists need to be calling this out so we can be informed on the best approach to look after each other.

Maybe should've been scrutinizing the government the last 8yrs rather than all the petty shite towards every other party. The media has led to this government so you are all partly to blame

Thank you for doing your job. The sycophancy and blind acceptance promoted by some of your colleagues is nothing short of an abdication of their duty to the public.
