Tell me about your local “characters” growing up. We had a guy who introduced himself as “Mad Alan”, wandered round with three dogs and claimed he liked having sex in bins.

In hindsight when I occasionally saw him the idea that doing something stupid in your teens to impress other people could lead to life-long consequences had a big impact on me. It also probably took a lot of gloss off of stories which mythologised the IRA

Patchy, man's dead now. Used to drink in several bars around Cork and was a complete arse if memory serves. Cork used have a lot of characters - Dancing Eamon who used to wear big headphones and a jacket and constantly be dancing talking about MJ and snuff.
