Yeah, that seems a bit needlessly labelly. I guess disabled people are quite often ableist eejits too, disappointingly.

I’ve had some people be very shitty to me “What would YOU know about disability?” and you wonder whether they’d only be satisfied if I had my Freedom Pass as my header and medical history as my pinned tweet. No desire to add “disabled” to my bio, because why should I have to?

How shitty people can be about disability never fails to disappoint, tbh. I tend not to bring it up unless it's mentioned these days: there's no point, that ignorance has deep roots and I'm not here to educate people.

I can’t deal with the endless useless quack “medical advice” either. My consultants know more than you please leave me alone.

I literally just ignore that stuff now. As if they are a tiny zephyr that crossed the room, unnoticed. A ghost fart.

It’s usually “Oh you have epilepsy, the chemicals in the meds are dangerous, try cannabis oil/some crap in Holland and Barratt” but this week someone told me to get a “Bates teacher” to train my eyes not to be shortsighted. I’m -14.

Had never heard of such a thing, googled, and all the websites looked extremely Geocities and hippy. I’ll stick to Specsavers, thanks, plus I get money off thanks to NHS help for very poor sight.

I'm minus ten in one eye. I get a whole 14 quid given I'm now long sighted as well. But yes Specsavers are cheap. I don't bother with varifocals just get my glasses made to my reading prescription.

I'm on my first set of varifocals. Not sure about it.

I also get the pathetic £17.60 off, plus free eye tests. I buy frames from TK Maxx for £20 then get Specsavers to just put lenses in to aave money (but the lenses still cost £120) My current pair. What do varifocsls do?pic.twitter.com/pkIc9w3pcX

Oh I like them. Varifocals are for old people who are both long sighted (due to age) and short sighted (due to being born with funny shaped eyeballs). So the top bit is distance, the middle is neutral and the bottom is reading, I think.

Oh, fascinating. I have rugby ball shaped eyes (yay astigmatism) but am just straight short sighted.

Those are cool. Varifocals are a bit disorientating. For distance vision they're pretty good. For close range, eg glancing down at your phone, there are distortion issues at the periphery & a lot of people end up with distance contacts & reading specs.

I'd recommend the latter as you can buy cheap funky reading specs. I have my glasses to a reading prescription (ie distance minus the long sight) so I can wear them to read in bed.
