What is even more generous than spending £2 on buying someone a coffee, is telling them they should approach that person for the gig, rather than expect people to do your research for you and give up their working time for free.

For those asking, I always reply andsay I’d be happy to meet, and list an hourly fee plus travel costs, and for no reason I can fathom, they don’t reply. It’s also never men you’ve ever interacted with.

Why on earth do they say yes? I would always say “no, not my thing, but try X who is the expert in subject Y.” Baffling.
