I always like afternoon religion because of the congregations you see: families scrambling with their children, eccentrics, immigrants, hungover Anglicans sneaking in the back, and so on. In short all the people it’s nice to see there!

Of course, that’s heavily influenced by Our Lady and the English Martyrs Cambridge, which had a very cosmopolitan congregation, and was last-chance-saloon for Anglican ordinands (not always due to hangovers!), but you get shades of it at some cathedral evensongs too.
