This is pathetic. I’ve met children, mothers in poverty, homeless women, bleeding into their clothes & skipping school because they have to choose between food and tampons. It is a problem, it exists.pic.twitter.com/8aIThAv6Fu

Skimmed through this woman’s feed today. I declined efforts by various contacts to support her court action and this is pretty much in keeping with my response back then. Privilege, ugly great blind spots, and an over inflated self esteem.
I was unsurprised by the straignt up transphobia but the joking arrogant dismissal of the problems working class women face in poverty was jawdropping in its cruelty.
Indeed. And now she has her platform of phobics to rant at, most of whom seem able to believe her theory that poor people don’t bleed enough. Repellent.
You think period poverty is pretty uncontroversial and accepted as A Bad Thing, but her argument is identical to Isabel Oakeshott claiming food poverty is purely down to financial mismanagement because people can just feed their children porridge oats made with water.
Yes! Sanitary products can be cheap! But when you have nothing, they’re expensive, and since they’re cheap, a little funding can make them available to homeless people, in schools etc. The Welsh Assembly just set some funding aside for it, and I often donate tampons to foodbanks.
