Drop four day week: wasn’t a promise, granted, but people assume (and it’s spun as) that four days work = 80% of your salary. Add: council tax reform: there are so few bands, people on low incomes should have exemption reinstated, homes costing should huge sums should pay morehttps://twitter.com/tristandross/status/1205556611772768257 …

This is bang on. Give people their morning and/or late afternoon back..get away from 9-5 acceptance. So many people I know have kids and then move/change/leave jobs depending on how much flex they are given with drop off/pick up. But also, access to bank/post office etc

I think you need to let people choose how to order it: “four day week” messaging made people think they’d be made to take Fridays off & have pay cut, and lots of people would like to clock off early and be at the school gates.

You could look at allowing the worker to choose from 4 day week or 5 shorter days. Some folk might prefer 4 days if they get a 3 day weekend.

Yeah the 4 day week wasn’t well explained & think it was a policy too far. Places that have adopted it have had success but it needs to be a gradual thing & pilot schemes to prove it to people.

Yes it needs to be contrasted with places like France where they have had a 35 hour week for a long time. Although perhaps that wouldn't have been advisable considering the current issues in France! And also I think we need to highlight tax avoidance policies much more.
