I've never seen anyone hit anyone in the game. The whole point is it's a "made you look" sort of gimmick, where if your friend looks at your hand and it's below your waist, they should have known better and they lost the game. I see people play it all of the time
I think the white power symbol is a parallel thing, but I really doubt that most people who know about the game have any idea about that newer and more obscure purpose of the game. The guy potentially could have been using it as part of a white supremacy gesture, but who knows
