Why is it ok for states to walk away from a mess they've created? Ireland always takes responsibility, sadly UK incapable of grown up decision making in recent years.

Because Ireland's laws don't presently allow the revocation of the citizenship of someone who was born a citizen. It can only be done in the case of a naturalised citizen.
