Ha joon Chang used the Netflix example of people being happy to pay for some things and seeing other things as a tax burden. So strange that those objections are made now in context of Internet subscription made cheaper and more available via a modest tax. https://youtu.be/NdbbcO35arw

Agreed. In Scotland the same argument is used about free baby boxes and free prescriptions for all. Social democratic policie but critics complain many could afford to pay, but how? Means testing would cost so much as to defeat the purpose of what is intrinsically a "good thing".

And I'm not someone convinced of the broadband policy but the argument against it is, as you say, revealing of a certain mindset.
