I agree with the policy behind this statement, but the way it is being presented to the public is risky: ownership will effectively make ZERO difference to fares.

I use trains and don’t hate them. I am also old enough to remember nationalised railways (without the rose tinted spectacles)

It cost me about £130 to get from Liverpool to Newcastle and back for work on two occasions recently. That is just too much. If you try to break journey up you risk not being able to get in next train if you miss connection. Different companies don't accept the tickets.

For any long journey, in the U.K., I would rather use any other form of transport than trains. They are diabolical and more expensive!
