John McDonnell: “This is public ownership for the future... that will literally eliminate bills for millions of people across the UK. Every part of this plan has been legally vetted, checked with experts, and costed. What we are offering in this election is real change.”

Are you suggesting that would be... A bad thing?

It depends on what added value is generated for the country by everyone having broadband. I suspect it might be considerable.

Fibre to the home or to the local cabinet? Big difference. Which is it?

Ireland considered nationalising eir as part of their Nat Broadband Plan. Nothing unusual here - it speeds up procurement process and rollout

It’s not actually BT, but the Openreach network, part of the BT group, which all broadband providers use. Brilliant policy!

Labour come up with a dazzlingly progressive idea that will help push the UK to the forefront of this high tech age and lo and behold...loads of people will scoff & demand that this doesn’t happen, that we remain subjugated by greedy businesses and an austerity happy govt.

I like this idea but essentially every Labour policy is spending. Free uni education. Free broadband. Free childcare for 2 year olds. Extra £26bn healthcare boost. Counsellors in every secondary school. 1000 new sure start centres. Where’s the money for all this?
-
It all comes from the 5% at the top, a slight increase on corporate tax (which remains lower than the EU standard) and taxing and reclaiming unpaid taxes from those companies that actively benefit from (in this case) the free broadband.
