I was a teeny tiny bit heroic this evening. I was on my way to meet @stephencavanagh for a quiet evening's pint, and I saw a young woman being chatted up/ intimidated by three young men on BMXes. She looked terrified. 1/2
Yeah but also I’ve been in this situation often, and men have just walked past faster, whereas when I’ve pretended to know a woman the antagonists just melt away instantly

The argument for walking on by is that you might have misread the situation, and intervened in a charming, wholly consensual courtship scenario. But I work in child protection, and in that milieu, terrible embarrassment is the best case scenario! 1/2

And it's happened more than once: I've called social care because I've overreacted to something harmless: how embarrassing! On the other hand, doing nothing has terrifying consequences So, me being embarrassed, and people thinking I'm an idiot, is always a positive outcome!
