Why are Labour demanding photo ID to cast votes in constituency selections, when they (rightly) oppose Tory plans to demand photo ID to cast your vote in general elections? What if you can’t afford or don’t have a passport/driving licence?pic.twitter.com/PoXI5BNI8Q

The official guidance is for invitation plus membership card or other ID. No requirement for photo ID. If CLP is operating this it's exposed to challenge.

Whoever runs the Vauxhall CLP account has sent me a snotty tweet saying the candidate’s wrong, but no one who’s contacted me has received an email flagging the fact it’s apparently incorrect. What if someone doesn’t go because they don’t think they have sufficient ID?

Effectively the candidate is suppressing the vote, but most likely their OWN vote, because it's their leaflet. The CLP should, imo, send an email clarifying the requirements without making any reference to the leaflet.

It's probably a genuine desire to ensure their supporters aren't turned away for lack of ID. But yes it's misleading. The CLP should confirm.

Yeah, the errors across literature in Vauxhall don’t speak well of candidates. But the fact Labour ask for ID while opposing it for official elections is such an own goal.

There is a difference in that an individual vote in a selection is potentially decisive, whereas in any public election is astronomically unlikely to be so. The objective is to support you are the name on the members list, so invite and card/other ID. Photo ID is not asked for.

The interesting thing is the invite, which effectively means the http://email.You  are entitled to opt out of CLP emails altogether, and still attend. So what then?

No, Labour only ask for a membership card, since it's a group that requires membership to vote. It's only needed if you're not recognised by the officers. It's sent out with your membership. The number is then checked against a list to ensure you're still a member.
