It's a bit tone deaf, but I'm not sure it's the same kettle of fish as disenfranchisement of millions in a general election.
Because we’re a membership organisation. We aren’t asking for photo ID. This is incorrect from that campaign. If you check your emails we are asking members to bring their Membership Card (whixh everyone is given for free) or proof of ID if they don’t have it.
Why haven’t members been contacted to flag the fact this info is incorrect in that case? Or the fact that candidates have sent out conflicting info about when the doors are locked?pic.twitter.com/vGW0ZNBihO
It’s to keep non members from voting.Easy to understand.
It's a mistake on the leaflet, membership card is enough
It's much easier to manipulate a small election than a large one via entryism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entryism Of course, it's another matter if they actually looked for two IDs on the day - presumably regular attendees are known to the branch officers.
The official guidance is for invitation plus membership card or other ID. No requirement for photo ID. If CLP is operating this it's exposed to challenge.
Whoever runs the Vauxhall CLP account has sent me a snotty tweet saying the candidate’s wrong, but no one who’s contacted me has received an email flagging the fact it’s apparently incorrect. What if someone doesn’t go because they don’t think they have sufficient ID?
Yup, had this in my CLP. They accepted your membership card but if you didn't have it you had to give photo ID. Delayed the start of our branch selection meeting by 20 minutes and, obviously, didn't find anyone pretending to be a member... And I live in a sketchy constituency.
Did they give any info on what to expect if you’d recently moved and not been issued a new card yet?
