All right, can anybody spell out the history, if there is any, of Labour removing the Whip from MPs who vote the wrong way when it really matters, because there's a lot of talk about it today and an apparent shortage of genuine expertise.

Of course where I live it would be absolutely standard, and the main function of the Parliamentary Labour Party these past few years has been to make me fonder of closed party list systems than I ever imagined possible
