I’ve covered local fetes, magistrates, council meetings, road safety, schools, hospitals, businesses and a million other things while learning my trade. Owen Jones went from Oxford to political aide to opinion writer to activist. He’s never done a reporting shift in his life.pic.twitter.com/eVJYjR8CyO

Hi Tony, As a matter of genuine enquiry are reporters the only type of journalist please? What about subs for instance? Thanks

"Almost all" acknowledges that some do not. Are subs journalists in your eyes please? Cheers.

So do they cease to be journalists when they become subs then?

Hi Tony, a lot of journalists (myself included) couldn’t afford journalism training and learnt on the job. Are we less worthy of respect for being less flush? Is this reporting by Owen worthless?https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/nov/02/philip-green-allegations-its-not-banter-its-a-climate-of-fear-say-staff …

Unfortunately I’m 32 so free education didn’t exist. But again: was that reporting by Owen not reporting? Is he not a journalist?

Of all the stories Owen has written how many are based on something that is not politically biased?i can guess the story from reading the first line of most of Owens columns - isn’t that the difference between somebody preaching their view which is always the same and a reporter?

Columnists, reporters and Subs are all journalists. My view though is that it is now time for columnists not to report and reporters not to express opinions. There is now too much #fakenews and too many journalists spinning their point of view in the guise of reporting. M/f...

Ctd/... I don't accuse @OwenJones84 of this (unless I've missed something) but I'm happier when columnists don't report and vice-versa. We need trained journalists to provide unvarnished truth. #LightNotHeat.

Isn’t it better to know a reporter’s bias? Then the readers can compensate for the inevitable, invisible spin.
