Thing about having serious, chronic, life-threatening illnesses on the NHS is you see how your care is getting worse, and that it’s because of deliberate, chosen underfunding. Thing about wealth: it insulates you.

Boris Johnson deserves to get yelled at for gleeful austerity. The father of the ill baby doesn’t deserve to get attacked. I don’t deserve to be ignored because of staff shortages. The man in the bed next to me didn’t deserve to be no more than care service overflow.

No, it's because the systemic inefficiencies that exist within all monopolies are present in the NHS. The government has no competition for low and middle income health coverage and as a result they under pay staff causing shortages and under fund care which leads to people dying

And the awful thing is, the people giving the care know that they're having to give worse care. Everyone becomes a victim of it, and the stress and consequences are pushed all the way down. The fact that NHS staff still give it their absolute all every day is incredible.

I’m ashamed at the standard of care I’m allowed to give, I’m ashamed that I let people down & that there are so many gaps in the service. I wish the people with power were ashamed too.

And it also makes your wealth count for me. You are becoming even more privileged by the distance you create from others who contribute to and rely on the state. I bet not many terminal cancer/seriously ill patients stick with private health. The NHS remains a safety net for all.
