Doctors are incredibly careful in prescribing: taking these drugs keep me alive, out of hospital, and allow me to work, while this article classes that as “dependency”.

It sounds dramatic, because it is dramatic. But when patients can’t get pregabalin and have seizures, we’ll be told they’re “dependent”, that too many of us are on these drugs, and going without is actually good for us.

Does this mean more funding for frontline mental health services?

I’ve been on pregabalin since 2009. In the last 3 months it keeps disappearing from my prescription. It has also taken a huge effort for them to put me on repeat lamotrigne .

I've been on codeine and tramadol for 16 years. I only take what my pain requires and only take the full prescribed amount about once every 6 months. I am not dependent, I just need them for pain relief, which are two totally different things.

That was exactly what I thought when I saw the story. Expect a glut of "nah, medicines are overrated" stories in the coming weeks. Which is good news for peddlers of new-age bollocks among others
