The positions you take and the language used when in opposition matter, of course! But what you do when in government matters much more. Since 2010 the coalition/Conservatives have cut away at what was built up by Labour and recognising that is important too.

Right, but you enabled that. You voted for the Charter for Budget Responsibility in Jan 2015, the one that committed the next Parliament to £30 billion of cuts.

We lost because of atos, because the likes of rachel reeves proudly claiming "we will be tougher than the Tories on welfare". This happened. And every Labour voter I knew wanted to give up.
