The Smiths were (and always will be) undoubtedly great because of Morrissey (incredible poetic words and frontmanship) and Marr (music). Morrissey’s deep subsequent psychological decline and demise cannot touch, never mind taint, the pure and eternal beauty of the Smiths.

The only reason Morrissey becoming quorn gammon is news is because so many love The Smiths bc of the lyrics. If it was Ian Mccullough no one would give a shit.

Been saying this for ever. Marr’s unique/influential guitar work took Morrisey’s sad bedroom loner poetry to the charts & into the annals of indie-rock history. Legend.
